Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom was born in the village of Tujjar, near Sopore, in the northern Kashmir district of Baramulla. His father’s name was Usman Makhdoom, and his mother’s name was Bibi Maryam. They migrated from Uzbekistan to Kashmir. After his death, Emperor Akbar of the Mughal Empire built a shrine in his honor, which was later reconstructed by Atta Mohammad Khan.
