Best Time to Visit Ladakh

The best time to visit Ladakh is from May to September, when the weather is pleasant, roads are open and you can comfortably explore the breathtaking landscapes of the “Land of High Passes.” During these months, you can enjoy the stunning beauty of Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley, Magnetic Hill, Shanti Stupa and monasteries without extreme cold conditions.

Summer (Jun – Sep)
Pleasant weather (20 – 25 °C) and both Srinagar–Leh and Manali–Leh roads are trafficable. All monasteries, high passes and trekking routes operate, but expect peak-season crowds and higher prices.

Spring (Apr – May)
Srinagar–Leh route reopens in late April; apricot and almond blossoms line the Indus valley while temperatures stay 5 – 15 °C. Tourist numbers are still low, though the Manali road may remain snow-bound until mid-May.

Autumn (Sep – Oct)
Post-monsoon clarity, golden poplars and cooler 15 – 20 °C days create photogenic landscapes with thinner crowds.

Winter (Nov – Feb)
Sub-zero days, snow-covered passes and limited road access mean you must fly in, yet this is the season for the frozen-river Chadar trek and spotting snow leopards.

For adventure seekers, June to August is perfect for activities like trekking, biking to Leh, jeep safaris and camping by the lakes. The famous Chadar Trek, however, is a winter adventure (January–February) when the Zanskar River freezes into a spectacular trail of ice.

Whether you want a relaxing family holiday, a honeymoon trip or a thrilling adventure choosing the right season ensures a more comfortable and unforgettable Ladakh experience.
