Ladakh’s high altitude demands careful acclimatization to avoid Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Some people may not feel any discomfort, while others can experience symptoms of AMS. Personally, I didn’t feel any sickness during my 2023 Ladakh trip, but it’s always best to be fully prepared before embarking on a Leh Ladakh bike adventure.

Make sure to spend at least one full day in Leh upon arrival to allow your body to adjust to the altitude before heading to higher passes. Drink plenty of water, and avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can worsen dehydration. It’s also wise to consult your doctor about carrying Diamox (acetazolamide), which can help prevent AMS.
