It serves as the first halting point of the Amarnath Yatra, situated at an altitude of 9,500 feet. Chandanwari is accessible by road and offers basic facilities for pilgrims. This is the official starting point of the Amarnath trek.

3. Pissu Top – Steep Climb, 3 km Trek

According to some believers, there was a war between the Devas and Asuras to be the first to reach Lord Shiva. However, with Shiva’s divine power, the climb is believed to have been formed from the pile of demons defeated by Lord Shiva’s devotees, as per legend.

4. Sheshnag

Named after the mythical seven-headed serpent, this location offers majestic views of turquoise lakes and snow-covered peaks. From Pissu top pilgrims embark on a 12 km trek from Chandanwari to Sheshnag, passing through Pissu Top. The trail features steep inclines along the right bank of a cascading stream, offering breathtaking views of untouched wilderness. Upon reaching Sheshnag, pilgrims can take a refreshing bath in its pristine waters, easing their fatigue while immersing themselves in the serene beauty of the surroundings. The holy shrine is only 6 km from Panchtarni. Pilgrims must start their journey early in the morning, as there are no accommodation facilities at the Amarnath Cave. As pilgrims make their way to the sacred Amarnath Cave, they pass by the confluence of Amravati and Panchtarni. Many devotees choose to bathe in the Amravati River near the cave, believing it purifies them before Darshan. After their visit, they can either return to Panchtarni the same day or continue their journey back to Sheshnag by evening.
