About the Destination

Why Gurez? The Valley Few Dare to Visit

Gurez valley is Kashmir's best-kept secret a remote valley nestled at over 8,000 feet, tucked beyond the Razdan Pass in the Bandipora district. With the Kishanganga River weaving through dense pine forests and ancient Dard villages, it feels like a world apart from the crowded tourist trail of Srinagar and Pahalgam.

Ms. Sujata Suri and her group of 13 were not looking for the ordinary. They wanted the Kashmir that most visitors never see, where the air is sharper, the silence deeper and the landscapes utterly untouched. Getting a group this size to Gurez is a serious logistical undertaking and we were proud to make it seamless.

Case Study · How We Handled It

Challenges & Our Solutions

Challenge
Moving 13 guests to Gurez, a remote restricted area with narrow mountain roads required three coordinated Innovas operating as a convoy through the Razdan Pass.
Our Solution
We deployed three experienced drivers (Hussain, Tariq, Younis) briefed on convoy discipline. Hussain led, Tariq held the middle, and Younis brought up the rear ensuring the group moved as a single unit with no one left behind on tricky switchbacks.
Challenge
The Gurez road beyond Razdan Pass is narrow, unpaved in sections and susceptible to landslides in August, the height of monsoon season. Safety was the primary concern for 13 passengers.
Our Solution
We monitored road conditions via local contacts the night before and the morning of the drive. The convoy departed Srinagar early to cross Razdan Pass before midday, avoiding afternoon thunderstorms. All three drivers were experienced on this specific corridor.
Challenge
Gurez has no mobile connectivity. Once inside the valley, there was no way to communicate with our Srinagar office or the guests' families a concern for a 13-person group trip.
Our Solution
We briefed all guests and their contacts before departure. Our drivers carried walkie-talkies for intra-convoy communication. We set a detailed check-in protocol a daily confirmation call whenever connectivity was regained at Razdan Pass on the return leg.
Challenge
Accommodation options in Gurez are extremely limited. Finding suitable lodging for 13 guests in one of Kashmir's most remote valleys especially in August peak season required advance planning.
Our Solution
We booked Gurez accommodations well in advance through our local network. The group was distributed across available guesthouses to ensure comfort while keeping everyone within the same vicinity. Local homestay hosts were coordinated for meals.
Challenge
The return route via Sopore (rather than the same Bandipora road) added complexity an unfamiliar route for guests and a longer drive back to Srinagar that needed careful timing for Day 5 airport drop.
Our Solution
Our drivers were pre-briefed on the Sopore return route. We departed Gurez with generous buffer time, making a short scenic stop along the way. The group arrived back in Srinagar comfortably, with a relaxed final evening before the airport drop on Day 5.
