The Meteorological Centre has forecast the season’s first snowfall over the higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir on October 6–8, 2026.
Kashmir may see light rain and snowfall over higher reaches on October 5–6, with another spell possible from October 8–11.
Gulmarg may see fresh snowfall around October 9 with one current ECMWF-based forecast indicating about 3 cm of snow at 3,490 metres.
Snowfall is mainly expected in Gulmarg, Apharwat, higher Sonamarg and other high-altitude areas, while lower areas are likely to receive rain.
Gulmarg is currently one of the key places to watch for October snowfall, with snow possible on October 8, 9, 10 and 11.
Current forecasts favour snowfall in higher elevations rather than Srinagar city. Srinagar is more likely to see rain, so plan your trip accordingly.
