While most of India faces extreme summer heat, Kashmir’s mountains have turned white again in late May
On the early hours of Thursday, May 21, 2026, heavy fresh snowfall blanketed the Zojila Pass and high-altitude areas like Drass and Minamarg.
Due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions, the Srinagar-Leh National Highway and Gurez-Bandipora was temporarily closed.
The Meteorological Department predicts unstable weather to persist until Saturday, May 23. Expect intermittent rain in the plains and fresh snow in higher reaches.
